The Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) in Bahrain is conducting a Household Income and Expenditure Survey for 2024. The purpose of this survey is to collect data on the income and spending habits of both citizens and residents in Bahrain. The data gathered will be used by policymakers to develop effective economic, social, and environmental strategies. The survey involves over 6,000 randomly selected households and will be conducted from January to December 2024.

Active participation from selected households is crucial for the success of the project. The iGA has emphasized the importance of providing accurate information to the survey team. All data collected will be handled with the highest standards of confidentiality and personal data protection. The authority has already thanked the 3,161 households that have participated in the survey during the first half of the year.

The survey process begins with a call from the survey’s contact center to schedule an appointment, followed by three to four visits from a researcher to complete the necessary forms. Participants can verify the identity of field researchers by their blue vests with the authority’s logo and their ID cards. Verification can also be done through the official website or by scanning the QR code on the ID card. Researchers will also carry an official letter from the authority’s Population & Demographic Statistics Directorate.

The iGA has highlighted the positive impact of field visits, marketing campaigns, awareness workshops, and lectures in increasing public awareness about the importance of the survey. As a token of appreciation for participating households, the authority recently held a monthly draw for those who completed all three forms from January to May 2024. Prizes were awarded with the support of project partners, and these monthly draws will continue to honor the remaining participating households.

In conclusion, the Household Income and Expenditure Survey conducted by the iGA in Bahrain is a vital initiative that will provide valuable data for policymakers to make informed decisions regarding economic, social, and environmental strategies. Active participation from selected households is essential for the success of the project, and all data collected will be handled with the highest standards of confidentiality. The authority has taken steps to increase public awareness about the survey and has rewarded participating households with prize draws. This survey is an important step towards creating a comprehensive database on household income and spending patterns in Bahrain.
