Two students from the University of Bahrain have developed a smart system that allows individuals to remotely care for their houseplants. Batoul Sayed Ali Alawi and Zainab Hussein Ahmed, from the College of Information Technology, utilized Amazon Web Services to gather and store environmental data essential for plant health, including temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and light levels. The system analyzes this data to provide insights into plant development and health. The project was recognized at the College of Information Technology’s Graduation Projects Exhibition. In addition to collecting data, the system includes a smart alarm that notifies users via email of watering needs or adverse environmental changes that could harm their plants.
The system also features a specially designed website where users can review sensor data and environmental conditions. The website offers diagrams, tables, and guidance to support optimal plant care and encourage robust growth. Dr. Ali Hassan Ebrahim, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, guided the students in bringing their project to life. Dr. Ebrahim’s mentorship was instrumental in the project’s success and ensuring its technical integrity. This innovative system has the potential to revolutionize home gardening, making it easier for busy individuals or those with limited experience to care for their plants effectively.
