The Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Bahrain, under the leadership of H.E. Mr. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, is focused on developing regulatory procedures and decisions to enhance entrepreneurship, stimulate innovation, and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These efforts aim to accelerate commercial and industrial activities, support economic diversification, and provide opportunities for the national economy. The Minister recently announced Resolution No. (51) of 2024, which allows the practice of commercial activities through a virtual store known as “Sijili”.
This new resolution merges previous decisions related to “Sijili” to streamline the process for investors and entrepreneurs. It also expands the types of businesses that can utilize “Sijili”, allowing individual commercial establishments, companies, or even board members to apply for a license. The Minister highlighted the increasing demand from Bahraini merchants to register with “Sijili”, which allows them to conduct commercial activities without a physical commercial address. This move is in response to market demand and aims to provide more flexibility for businesses to operate and innovate.
Through Resolution No. (51) of 2024, the number of commercial activities permitted through “Sijili” has been increased to include 71 activities, with the addition of 30 new activities to support Bahraini competencies and facilitate business entry. The goal is to create a conducive environment for small projects to operate legally and simplify the establishment process for various types of businesses such as photographers, translators, trainers, and consultants. “Sijili” was launched by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce as part of its efforts to support small projects, provide opportunities for Bahraini nationals, and promote a new model for conducting commercial activities.
The virtual commercial store “Sijili” was previously introduced by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in 2016 and further regulated through decisions in 2021. It allows investors to carry out commercial activities without requiring a physical commercial address, making it easier for individuals and businesses to start operating. The initiative aims to support and encourage small projects while contributing to the overall economic growth of Bahrain. This aligns with the Ministry’s vision of fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and competitiveness among SMEs in the country.
By involving members of society in designing and developing services, the Ministry ensures that the needs and demands of Bahraini nationals are met. The decision to expand the scope of activities allowed through “Sijili” reflects the government’s commitment to creating a fair and competitive business environment, supporting local talents, and promoting economic growth. The resolution represents a significant step towards simplifying processes, supporting innovation, and providing opportunities for businesses to thrive in Bahrain’s dynamic market.
In conclusion, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce’s dedication to enhancing regulatory procedures, supporting entrepreneurship, and promoting innovation through initiatives like “Sijili” demonstrates its commitment to driving economic growth and diversification in Bahrain. By expanding the scope of commercial activities that can be conducted through the virtual store and streamlining processes for investors and entrepreneurs, the Ministry is paving the way for a more vibrant and competitive business landscape in the country.
