Bahrain has achieved a top position in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), receiving a Tier 1 classification from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Out of 194 nations evaluated, Bahrain has emerged as a leader in digital security, showcasing its significance on the global stage. This achievement has been attributed to the strong support for Bahrain’s cybersecurity system under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the proactive efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Salman, the CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre, highlighted the contributions of His Highness Major General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor and Commander of the Royal Guard, in strengthening the digital infrastructure of the Kingdom and enhancing cybersecurity readiness. Bahrain’s advanced position in the Global Cybersecurity Index is a result of the country’s strong data protection measures, network security, and sophisticated infrastructure. This achievement aligns with the objectives of the National Cybersecurity Strategy, which aims to ensure a secure and reliable cyber environment, thereby reinforcing Bahrain’s advancements in technology and data protection.
The successful initiatives and plans implemented by Bahrain in the cybersecurity sector promote continuous innovation by nurturing specialized national talent and capitalizing on emerging opportunities, contributing to the country’s alignment with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. The Global Cybersecurity Index assesses countries based on five key areas: legal framework, technical capabilities, regulatory measures, capacity development, and cooperation. Bahrain has secured a top-tier international ranking with a score between 95 and 100, achieving perfect scores in four out of the five categories.
With its strong performance in the Global Cybersecurity Index, Bahrain has solidified its position as a global leader in digital security, reflecting its commitment to safeguarding data and maintaining a secure cyber environment.
