Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, recently participated in the Seventeenth Ministerial Meeting of the Global Governance Group (3G). Hosted at the Permanent Mission of Singapore in New York, the meeting was chaired by Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, and saw the involvement of representatives from G20 nations. This session, held on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on global challenges and the need for enhanced international collaboration to address pressing issues.
During his address, H.E. Dr. Al-Zayani emphasized the importance of the meeting as a forum for dialogue with G20 countries. He highlighted the escalating global challenges and stressed the necessity for a peaceful, stable, and secure global environment to achieve sustainable development goals. Dr. Al-Zayani specifically addressed the urgent conflict in Gaza as the primary challenge facing the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire to release hostages, detainees, and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to affected civilians.
The Foreign Minister also referred to the May 2024 Arab Summit held in Bahrain, which initiated a crucial proposal for an international peace conference to resolve the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution. The summit’s call for full recognition of the State of Palestine and its UN membership, as well as the implementation of education and healthcare programs for those affected by regional conflicts, were highlighted. Dr. Al-Zayani urged G20 nations to prioritize these initiatives to offer hope for a brighter future to millions of young people affected by conflicts in the region.
In conclusion, Dr. Al-Zayani reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to engaging with the G20 in promoting multilateral efforts for a more peaceful, stable, and secure world. He emphasized the importance of genuine collaboration in finding comprehensive, sustainable, and equitable solutions to the challenges faced by nations globally. The 3G Ministerial Meeting acts as a platform for inclusive dialogue among UN Member States on key global issues such as peace, security, and sustainable development, especially focusing on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the Palestinian people’s plight.
