A Bahraini man was recently acquitted of theft charges due to lack of evidence linking him to the crime. The man, who was riding a motorbike, was accused of participating in the theft of aluminium scraps. The court ruled that there was insufficient evidence against him and that his only involvement was giving a ride to another individual who was the primary accused in this case.
According to the man’s lawyer, Dr. Mohammed Al Kooheji, his client was accused of attempting theft alongside another individual. However, their attempt failed as they were spotted before they could complete the crime. The client claimed that he was simply giving a ride to the other man, who collected discarded aluminium pieces from the roadside. The court found that there was no evidence implicating the client in the theft and that his actions were limited to giving a ride.
The lawyer argued that investigations revealed no information linking his client to the theft and that there were no fingerprints found on the aluminium pieces. Additionally, the primary accused admitted to attempting to steal the aluminium himself. The court noted that the accused maintained his innocence throughout the trial, stating that he was only giving his neighbour a ride and was unaware of the theft taking place.
The court highlighted the fact that the primary accused confirmed the second accused’s role was limited to providing a ride and had no involvement in the theft. The primary accused admitted to spotting the aluminium in front of a house and deciding to take it as he works in scrap metal. The court found the evidence insufficient to convict the second accused and acquitted him of all charges.
While the primary accused received a three-month prison sentence for his role in the attempted theft, the second accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence linking him to the crime. The court found that his only involvement was providing a ride to the primary accused and that he had no part in planning or executing the theft. The acquittal of the Bahraini man highlights the importance of strong evidence in criminal cases and the need for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
