The organizing committee of the “Manama 2024” World Weightlifting Championship has officially unveiled the tournament’s logo, set to take place from December 6 to 15, 2024. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the event will be held in the area opposite Bahrain National Theatre. Designed by Domino, the logo reflects Bahrain’s rich history and global standing, serving as a symbol of the country’s heritage and role as a welcoming hub for international events.
The logo features two opposing sails representing Bahrain’s maritime trade and pearl diving legacy, symbolizing the nation’s role as a cultural and economic exchange center between East and West. The colors of the logo – red, white, and gray – hold symbolic meanings, with red and white representing the Bahraini flag and gray symbolizing neutrality and balance. The design aims to showcase Bahrain as a peaceful and harmonious country that embraces diversity and coexistence.
Incorporating red circles representing the weights lifted in weightlifting, the logo pays tribute to the sport’s Olympic roots. These circles align with the designs of both the International Weightlifting Federation and the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation logos. As Bahrain’s first time hosting a global event for an Olympic sport, the championship marks a significant milestone for the country, having previously not organized any Olympic world championship at the senior level.
Bahrain’s opportunity to host the “Manama 2024” World Weightlifting Championship came after the success of the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championship, which earned international acclaim. The exceptional organization of the Asian tournament showcased Bahrain’s capabilities, gaining the trust of the International Weightlifting Federation and leading to the hosting rights for the 2024 World Championship. The upcoming event is expected to further elevate Bahrain’s status as a host for prestigious international sporting competitions.
As the countdown to the “Manama 2024” World Weightlifting Championship begins, excitement is building around Bahrain as it prepares to showcase its hosting capabilities and hospitality to athletes and spectators from around the globe. With a logo that encapsulates the country’s heritage, global significance, and commitment to sport, the championship promises to be a memorable event that reinforces Bahrain’s position as a leading destination for international sporting events. Stay tuned for more updates on the championship as December 2024 draws near.
