The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF) has recently praised the Cabinet’s decision to extend the afternoon work ban for three months, starting from June 15th to September 15th, in the year 2025. This decision was made in response to a proposal by the BFLUF, which has been a long-awaited demand by labour unions and workers in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Yaqoub Yusuf Mohammed, the President of the Federation, expressed his gratitude towards the government for their proactive approach in implementing this decision, in line with His Majesty the King’s vision to protect workers from hazards, especially during periods of rising global temperatures.
The President of the BFLUF highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has always been a pioneer in humanitarian and human rights work in the region. He mentioned that under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the government has swiftly responded to safeguard human health and dignity by extending the afternoon work ban. Workers have welcomed this decision with great happiness and appreciation, as it will have a positive impact on work and workers in sectors affected by high temperatures during the summer months.
Furthermore, the BFLUF President emphasized that this decision will enhance the Kingdom’s reputation regarding workers’ rights and occupational safety at regional and international levels. He believes that the international community will praise Bahrain for taking steps to protect workers and uphold human rights. The Federation plans to inform the global community about this decision and its impact on the human rights and labour landscape in the Kingdom of Bahrain, highlighting the numerous accomplishments in these areas during the reign of His Majesty the King.
It is important to note that the midday work ban usually starts on July 1st and ends on September 1st each year in Bahrain. However, this year, due to increasing temperatures, labour unions called for an extension of the ban to protect workers. The decision to extend the afternoon work ban demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of workers and enhancing their working conditions. This proactive approach reflects the government’s dedication to upholding human rights and labour rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Overall, the decision to extend the afternoon work ban in Bahrain has been met with praise and appreciation from labour unions and workers. The Federation will continue to advocate for the protection of workers’ rights and occupational safety, both domestically and internationally. By implementing this decision, Bahrain has reinforced its commitment to human rights and set an example for other countries in the region to follow. This move will further solidify Bahrain’s reputation as a leader in promoting workers’ rights and ensuring a safe working environment for all.
