Impact of Endowments in Dubai on Humanitarian Development
The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation in Dubai showcased the significant impact of endowments and their returns in supporting various developmental and humanitarian sectors during the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD). Key areas highlighted include education, healthcare, and water sustainability, along with innovative models to convert endowments into sustainable impacts for diverse community groups.
Endowment Contributions to Educational Support
During the exhibition, the foundation emphasized the role of endowments in the education sector. The total value of educational endowment assets stands at approximately 718 million AED, distributed across 52 endowment assets. These resources provide annual educational support amounting to 5.9 million AED, benefiting around 3,100 students through scholarships and educational commitments.
This educational support reflects the foundation’s commitment to enhancing learning opportunities in Dubai, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder students from pursuing their academic goals.
Healthcare Sector Support through Endowments
The Dubai Endowment Foundation also showcased its contributions to the healthcare sector. The assets of health-related endowments are valued at 552 million AED, generating returns of approximately 6.3 million AED. These funds have significantly improved healthcare services by providing medical devices and supplies for underprivileged individuals, amounting to over 8.3 million AED.
This initiative demonstrates how endowments serve as sustainable resources that support the healthcare sector and meet the needs of beneficiaries effectively.
Water Sustainability Initiatives through Endowment Projects
An essential aspect of the endowment initiatives includes the water sustainability projects. Highlighted projects under the water endowment initiative exhibit the humanitarian impact of these efforts. With an overall project value of 37 million AED, these initiatives aim to provide clean drinking water, benefiting approximately 140,000 individuals annually.
The commitment to ensuring access to essential water resources underscores the broader vision of the Dubai Endowment Foundation to address critical societal needs through sustainable solutions.
Innovative Humanitarian Model: The Bread Initiative
The foundation also introduced the “Bread for the Way” initiative, blending innovation with humanitarian efforts. This project employs technology to provide bread to those in need in a practical and sustainable manner, highlighting the evolving tools of endowment work and their responsiveness to daily community needs.
This initiative is a prime example of how modern solutions can address traditional humanitarian challenges effectively.
The Expanding Endowment Landscape in Dubai
The overarching framework of endowments in Dubai is rapidly developing, currently encompassing total assets valued at 13.5 billion AED. This extensive system includes 1,294 endowments and 604 endowers, reflecting a broadening base and diversity of fields that generate sustainable returns contributing to community services.
Ali Al-Mutawa, the Secretary General of the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation in Dubai, stated the foundation’s focus on maximizing the developmental impact of endowments and transforming their returns into sustainable values for humanity. He noted that the role of endowments in Dubai represents a sustainable developmental system that transcends direct charitable contributions, fostering long-term value creation.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Dubai’s Endowments
The participation of the Dubai Endowment Foundation at DIHAD reflects a commitment to highlight Dubai’s endowment experience and its role in supporting humanitarian and community development. As the foundation continues to put forth practical examples of how charitable contributions turn into sustainable impacts, observers can anticipate future projects designed to address community needs effectively.
As the endowment system grows, ongoing initiatives aim to refine the effectiveness of these contributions in areas such as education, healthcare, and sustainable resources, assuring that they evolve with the needs of the community.
