Oman’s Literary Creativity Celebrated with Student Awards
The Omani Association of Writers and Literati, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah Governorate, recently honored the winners of the third edition of the Literary Creativity Award for school students. The event took place under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Mohammed al-Hunaei, the Wali of Sohar.
Dr. Susan bint Saud Al-Yaqoubi, a member of the Omani Association of Writers and Literati, emphasized the award’s role in discovering and nurturing literary talents among school students. She stated that this initiative is essential in preparing a conscious generation of writers and creators. Dr. Al-Yaqoubi highlighted the association’s commitment to supporting these talents, encouraging them to continue their creative journeys, which ultimately enrich the cultural and literary landscape in the future.
Growth of the Literary Creativity Award
According to officials, the third edition of the award saw significant growth, reflecting its success in promoting literary participation among students. Aqeel bin Darwish Al-Lawati, head of the award’s evaluation committee at the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah, reported that the institutions represented in this edition submitted over 1,005 entries across various categories, including poetry recitation, classical Arabic speaking, short stories, classical poetry, and literary analysis of poetry.
The increase in participants and quality of submissions demonstrates the award’s effectiveness in achieving its objectives and enhancing the presence of literature and creativity among school students. This progressive engagement serves as a vital aspect of enriching the educational and cultural sectors in Oman.
Winners and Categories
The awards ceremony recognized students for their outstanding contributions, with first-place winners in various categories showcasing remarkable talent. Lin bint Salem bin Mohammed Al-Zahabi from Khadijah bint Khuwaylid School secured the top position in the junior category for poetry recitation, while Bilsan bint Ahmed Al-Badawi from Zainab bint Abi Sulaim School won first place in the youth category for classical Arabic speaking.
In the same category, Areeaf bint Ahmed Al-Saidi from Knowledge Fields School triumphed in poetry recitation, and Raghad bint Khamees Al-Fazari from Khadijah bint Khuwaylid School claimed the top prize for her short story writing.
For the young adult category, Alaa bint Said Al-Juhari from Hafsa bint Abdul Rahman School received the first prize for her short story, while Said bin Badr Al-Badawi from Yaarab bin Al-Balharith School triumphed in classical poetry. Additionally, Mitha bint Ahmed Al-Ghaoi from Al-Tareef School achieved first place in literary analysis of poetry within the same category.
Recognition and Future Implications
At the end of the event, students winning the top positions across different categories were honored, along with the school administrations and supervisors who contributed to their success, as well as members of the evaluation committee in the governorate. The celebration not only rewards individual achievements but also strengthens the community’s commitment to fostering literary skills among students.
