Construction of the City Walk Rustaq project in the Wilayat of Rustaq is advancing, municipal officials said, as the mixed-use development moves through its early structural phases. According to the South Al Batinah Municipality, building works have reached roughly 25 percent completion, with foundations and floor slabs poured and column casting now underway.

The site, located behind Rustaq Referral Hospital, covers about 28,000 square meters with a built-up area near 7,500 square meters, officials indicated. Work continues according to the approved schedule, and the project is intended to provide commercial, leisure and service facilities to residents and visitors of South Al Batinah.

City Walk Rustaq progress and construction details

Project managers report that casting of bridges and floors for all buildings has been completed, and crews are currently placing ground-floor columns. These activities represent the initial structural stage of the City Walk Rustaq development, which will require successive phases of superstructure, envelope, and fit-out work.

Engineers coordinating the site said progress aligns with the program approved by municipal authorities. Meanwhile, contractors are preparing next-stage workflows such as utility routing and coordination with specialized trades, according to statements from the directorate overseeing the project.

Facilities and mixed-use program

The City Walk Rustaq is planned as a mixed-use urban promenade combining retail, dining and service offerings with recreational and health-focused amenities. The program includes shops, restaurants and cafes, a private medical clinic, a cinema and a suspended children’s play area, officials said.

Furthermore, the development will feature gender-segregated fitness facilities, a small motel with guest rooms, a central plaza, landscaped green spaces, seating areas and water elements. These components are intended to create a year-round destination that supports both daily life and occasional visits.

Complementing local services

Located adjacent to Rustaq Referral Hospital, the project aims to complement existing health services while offering convenient retail and leisure options. Additionally, the inclusion of a clinic and supportive services is intended to provide practical benefits for patients, visitors and staff at nearby facilities.

Design inspiration and urban integration

Architects said the City Walk Rustaq design draws on local landscape features and the silhouette of the Rustaq mountains to create a distinctive vernacular expression. Planners emphasized interconnected open spaces, clear pedestrian pathways and visual links between different project elements to enhance the visitor experience.

Public space design prioritizes walkability and cohesion, with the central plaza acting as a social hub. In addition, water features and shaded seating are incorporated to improve comfort in the local climate, while landscaping schemes aim to introduce native planting where feasible.

Sustainability and access considerations

While detailed sustainability certifications were not specified, municipal engineers said efforts are being made to coordinate efficient water and energy strategies during later stages of the project. Planners also indicated attention to access and circulation, with pedestrian routes and service access points designed to separate foot traffic from deliveries and service vehicles.

Economic and social implications for South Al Batinah

Officials expect the City Walk Rustaq to contribute to economic activity and tourism in South Al Batinah by creating new retail and hospitality opportunities. The project is projected to offer investment prospects and generate employment during construction and operation, according to municipal statements.

Local leaders noted that introducing a compact urban promenade can provide residents with a modern public realm and help diversify the governorate’s commercial offerings. Therefore, the development is positioned as part of wider urban planning objectives aimed at improving quality of life and supporting responsible growth.

Next steps, timeline and what to watch

With building completion estimated at about 25 percent, the next immediate steps include finishing the ground-floor columns, continuing vertical construction and commencing envelope works. Contractors will subsequently move to interior fit-out, services installation and landscaping phases, municipal officials said.

No fixed public opening date has been released; however, observers should watch for announcements on phased openings, tender awards for fit-out contracts and milestones such as structural completion and systems commissioning. Officials indicated ongoing coordination with relevant authorities to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards.

In conclusion, the City Walk Rustaq project is progressing as a targeted mixed-use development intended to enhance retail, leisure and service capacity in Rustaq. According to project managers and municipal sources, forthcoming updates will focus on superstructure completion and public announcements of phased openings, which will signal the next visible milestones for residents and investors to monitor.
