Today marked the opening of the Dhofar Forum for the Holy Quran, in its eighth edition for the year 1448 AH / 2026 AD, at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Center for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah. The event is organized by the General Directorate of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in Dhofar Governorate under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen bin Mohammed Al Ghassani, Chairman of the Dhofar Municipality.
The forum will continue until October 7, featuring a range of activities, including a daily exhibition that opens its doors from 8 AM to 1 PM. The exhibition comprises eight interactive and specialized sections, designed to engage visitors in various dimensions of the Quran’s role in daily life, scientific miracles, and the beauty of Omani manuscripts.
Purpose and Goals of the Dhofar Forum
The Dhofar Forum aims to strengthen the connection with the Holy Quran and integrate its teachings into daily life. It promotes the culture of contemplation and application of Quranic principles, connecting its verses to everyday situations. The forum also supports Quran memorization, fosters talent in recitation, and equips religious educators and aspiring Quranic scholars through specialized training programs.
A highlight of the forum includes numerous scientific sessions and workshops. Among these is the course titled “The Jewel of Mastery for Memorizing and Retaining the Holy Quran,” presented by Hamad bin Saud bin Hamad Al Ma’shari, a reciter known for his expertise in the ten readings of the Quran. This course targets the female religious staff in the General Directorate, focusing on effective memorization techniques and quality standards.
Workshops and Panel Discussions
Additional activities include a workshop on “Stopping and Starting,” conducted by Dr. Abdullah bin Salem bin Hamad Al Hanaei, an Associate Professor of Quran Studies at Sultan Qaboos University. This workshop is designed for men aged 18 and above, addressing the importance of proper stopping and starting techniques in Quran recitation.
Today, the forum also featured a panel discussion titled “In the Embrace of the Quran,” with contributions from Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Hanaei, Hamad bin Saud Al Ma’shari, and Dr. Raed bin Awad bin Ali Al Khair, a professor of Islamic law and the director of the Salalah Quran Center. This discussion explored various dimensions of Quranic studies and their relevance today.
Activities for the Community and Future Aspirations
Attendees can also look forward to a lecture called “The Spring of Hearts” presented by Naima bint Salem Musan, a religious guide at the General Directorate of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in Dhofar. This event aims to enhance participants’ spiritual connection to the Quran while encouraging interaction through various promotional giveaways throughout the day.
The forum includes a “Unique Recitation Competition” for students in grades five to nine across Dhofar schools. Participants will be evaluated on their vocal quality, pronunciation, and engagement with Quranic recitation protocols. Winners will be recognized during the closing ceremony of the forum, emphasizing the initiative’s dedication to nurturing skilled Quran reciters.
The Dhofar Forum for the Holy Quran will continue its activities over the coming days, seeking to promote the Quran’s presence within various community segments and generations. This forum underscores the ongoing commitment to develop Quranic programs that meet community needs and prepare skilled memorizers who can represent Oman in international events and competitions.
Looking Ahead: The Impact of the Forum
The Dhofar Forum is not only a celebration of the Quran but also a vital initiative aimed at encouraging deeper engagement with its teachings. As the forum progresses, attendees can anticipate more educational opportunities and community events aimed at fostering a stronger appreciation for the Quran across all ages.
