Algeria Celebrates National Day in Oman
The Algerian Embassy in Oman hosted a reception today to celebrate the National Day of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. The event, held in Muscat, was attended by prominent officials, including Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Saeedi, the Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, serving as the representative of the Omani government and the honored guest. Numerous distinguished members of the State Council and Shura Council, along with various diplomatic missions accredited to Oman, were also present.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Ali Bougazi emphasized that Algeria-Oman relations have witnessed unprecedented qualitative advancements in recent years. This improvement has been reflected in increased mutual visits and the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields. Such developments have significantly elevated bilateral cooperation and opened new avenues for partnership between the two countries.
During an interview with the Omani News Agency, the ambassador stated that this year’s National Day celebration is held under the slogan “November… Memory of a Nation and Future of a Community.” This occasion represents a moment to recall the tremendous sacrifices made by the Algerian people to regain their national sovereignty after 132 years of colonization, showcasing pride in the achievements of independent Algeria across multiple sectors.
Commitment to Development
Building on the principles and timeless values of the November Revolution, Algeria continues its developmental journey led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. His vision emphasizes investment in human capital and the optimal utilization of national resources, aiming to achieve progress and prosperity for the nation.
The ambassador noted that diplomatic relations between Oman and Algeria have extended for more than half a century, rooted in shared principles, values, and diplomatic perspectives regarding regional and international issues. A significant focus remains on supporting the rights of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, alongside advocating for dialogue and peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
Notable Diplomatic Visits
Significant milestones in the bilateral relationship were highlighted, including a state visit by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Oman in October 2024 and a state visit by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to Algeria in May 2025. These visits laid the groundwork for a new phase of cooperation encompassing energy, agriculture, pharmaceutical industry, higher education, transportation, digitalization, environment, trade, and investment.
One exemplary project is the production of urea and ammonia in Algeria, a collaboration between Oman’s Suhail Bahwan Group and Algeria’s Sonatrach, with an investment of $2.4 billion. Furthermore, an announcement was made in August 2026 regarding the expansion of the factory to increase its production capacity by 50 percent.
Investment Opportunities and Economic Ties
Additionally, an agreement to establish an Algerian-Omani investment fund signifies another step toward supporting joint projects and enhancing partnerships among economic players in both nations. The growing economic ties are further illustrated by Oman’s participation as the guest of honor at the 57th International Fair in Algeria in June 2025, alongside Algeria’s role as the guest of honor at Oman’s agricultural food fair later that year.
The ambassador also pointed out that the reciprocal visits between Oman and Algeria are vital for enhancing military cooperation and exchanging expertise in fields such as transportation, communications, digitalization, and artificial intelligence.
Cultural Connections and Community Engagement
In reflecting on the contributions of the Algerian community residing in Oman, the ambassador praised their role as a bridge for cultural and human connections between the two countries. He expressed the embassy’s commitment to strengthening communication with the community and encouraging their participation in national and cultural activities.
Conclusion: A Bright Future Ahead
The future of Algeria-Oman relations appears promising, with ongoing initiatives and collaboration in various sectors. Observers expect the continuation of exchanged visits and enhanced economic ties, paving the way for further growth and mutual benefits. As both countries strive for a more integrated partnership, they are set to tackle upcoming challenges together while celebrating their historical connections.
