Trade Exchange Between Bahrain and France Triples Over the Past Decade

Recent reports indicate that trade exchange between Bahrain and France has more than tripled in the last ten years. This significant growth underscores the strengthening economic ties between the two nations and reflects the ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation. Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, reaffirmed this development during a gala dinner hosted by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bahrain.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the event, which embraced the theme “A Night in Paris,” Sheikh Salman conveyed greetings from King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, as well as from Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Minister emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to deepening its distinguished bilateral relations with France through enhanced cooperation across various domains. He pointed out the importance of fostering private sector partnerships to leverage the promising business environment that Bahrain offers, which in turn supports economic growth and opens up new avenues for collaboration and investment.

Historical Ties and Future Opportunities

The historical ties between Bahrain and France date back over a century, creating a robust foundation for sustainable partnerships. Sheikh Salman highlighted that enduring partnerships depend not only on commercial interests but also on mutual trust, direct communication, and strong human connections. He acknowledged the vital role that the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bahrain has played since its establishment in 2015, in facilitating communication and transforming relationships into fruitful opportunities.

Furthermore, the Minister stressed that the connections between the two nations extend beyond economic collaboration into the realms of culture and education. Notably, the shared efforts in promoting the French language in Bahrain since 1987 through Bahrain University underscore the depth of this cultural exchange. In addition, the French association has been instrumental in enhancing cultural ties for over 50 years.

Recent Developments and Future Prospects

Officials noted the continuous evolution and growth of economic and investment relations between Bahrain and France. This is exemplified by Aluminum Bahrain’s acquisition of Dunkerque Aluminum, which positions it as the largest aluminum smelter in the European Union. Additionally, a strategic partnership was established between Bahrain’s Mumtalakat Holding Company and the French investment firm Tractebel, leading to the opening of an operational office in Manama to enhance collaboration across the Gulf Cooperation Council.

As the trade exchange between Bahrain and France has surged over the past decade, officials pointed out the array of future opportunities awaiting the two nations in sectors such as energy, technology, artificial intelligence, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. They emphasized the importance of leveraging French expertise in sustainable finance, financial technology, and digital innovation to strengthen the economic landscape further.

As the relationship between Bahrain and France continues to grow, stakeholders are optimistic about the potential for future collaborations that could yield mutual benefits. Investments and partnerships in emerging sectors will be key areas to watch in the coming years. The anticipated advancements will not only enhance bilateral trade but also ensure sustainable growth and development for both nations as they navigate an ever-evolving global landscape.
