Germany began their Euro 2024 campaign in style with a dominant 5-1 victory over a 10-man Scotland team in Munich. Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala got the hosts off to a quick start with goals in the first half. The game took a turn for the worse for Scotland when Ryan Porteous was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Ilkay Gundogan, leading to a penalty converted by Kai Havertz. Niclas Fuellkrug added a fourth goal before an own goal from Antonio Ruediger gave Scotland a consolation. Emre Can sealed the win for Germany with a late goal.

Scotland’s night went from bad to worse as they faced an early exit in their opening match. With tough games against Switzerland and Hungary looming, Scotland will need to regroup quickly to salvage their tournament hopes. In contrast, Germany, looking to clinch their fourth continental title, got off to a strong start. After disappointments in recent tournaments, the experienced German side showed their hunger for success with an impressive performance.

Germany’s coach Julian Nagelsmann has instilled a sense of optimism in the team since taking over in September. The team is looking to recapture the magic of the 2006 World Cup when they were the hosts. With veterans like Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan leading the midfield, Germany showed maturity and skill on the field. Scotland, on the other hand, struggled to match the intensity of the Germans, only mustering one win in their last nine matches.

Despite a valiant effort by Scotland to limit the damage in the second half, they were unable to stop Fuellkrug’s powerful strike into the top corner. A late own goal from Ruediger gave Scotland a consolation, but it was not enough to change the course of the game. Emre Can put the cherry on top for Germany with a superb strike from distance in the dying moments of the game.

Overall, Germany’s dominant victory over Scotland in their Euro 2024 opener sets the tone for their campaign. With a blend of experience and youth, the German team looks poised for success in the tournament. Meanwhile, Scotland will need to regroup quickly and put up a strong fight in their upcoming matches to avoid an early exit. The stage is set for an exciting tournament as teams battle for continental glory in Euro 2024.
