An air quality monitoring station located in Jebel Ali was recently unveiled on World Environment Day, costing Dh2 million for its establishment. The station is equipped to measure 101 types of air pollutants, temperature, humidity, wind direction, and more to ensure the health and safety of workers in the area. The monitoring station is a crucial initiative as Jebel Ali houses numerous factories and industries that could potentially impact the air quality of the region. By monitoring pollutants continuously, the station aims to safeguard the well-being of residents and workers in Jebel Ali.

The facility operates 24/7, collecting data on air quality which is then analyzed by a team of experts at the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation. The process of measuring pollutants involves a pipe that collects air from the outside and splits it into seven parts for analysis by different sensors. Eleven sensors are stacked to measure various pollutants, with some needing flames while others require air and water for effective functioning. Additionally, there are sensors dedicated to measuring fine dust and larger dust particles, aiding in predicting dust storms and identifying their causes.

The real-time data collected by the monitoring station is displayed on a computer screen, showing the levels of pollutants through graphs and numerical values. This information can be used by authorities to formulate environmental policies for Jebel Ali, contributing to the development of local and national initiatives for environmental protection. The monitoring station is aligned with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, demonstrating the commitment of Dubai’s leadership to enhance the overall quality of life in the emirate. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has spearheaded efforts to implement projects that improve air quality and environmental standards.

By providing accurate data on air quality in Jebel Ali, the monitoring station enables the assessment of environmental impacts from industrial activities. This information helps determine necessary measures to minimize environmental damage and ensure compliance with established standards. The station plays a crucial role in promoting a safe and healthy environment for residents and workers in Jebel Ali, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development of the region. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing environmental health and safety in industrial areas, highlighting the importance of air quality monitoring for a better quality of life.
