In today’s interconnected world of global cinema, Gems Modern Academy (GMA) in Dubai has produced a standout talent in the form of a grade 9 student. The student is making waves in the film industry with her performance in an Indo-Jordanian film called ‘Yellow Bus,’ highlighting the potential of young talent and the cultural exchange within the realms of cinema. The film has already garnered international acclaim, being released on OSN+ in the UAE and in cinemas across Saudi Arabia, captivating audiences and critics alike.

Aarushi Laud, the student from GMA, has not only showcased her acting prowess in the film but has also brought home prestigious accolades. ‘Yellow Bus’ has received the World Vision Award for Best Film at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California, and the Best Film Award at the Johannesburg Film Festival in South Africa. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in India, among others, solidifying its international recognition.

Inspired by real-life tragedies where school children lost their lives due to being left in hot school buses, ‘Yellow Bus’ delves into a poignant narrative. The film follows the story of an Indian woman who discovers that her daughter was abandoned on a school bus to die in the desert heat, prompting her to seek justice. Aarushi Laud, who plays the role of the sister to the deceased girl in the film, shared her experience of shooting the emotionally-charged scenes, expressing a mix of excitement and nervousness on set.

Despite the challenges of shooting, including long hours and multiple takes to perfect scenes, Aarushi found the experience rewarding and a great learning opportunity. She credits her school, parents, and the director for supporting her throughout the project. Aarushi, who also enjoys singing, completed her Grade 8 vocal Trinity exam from London and aims to pursue a career in both singing and acting, with aspirations of exploring opportunities in the UAE and the US in the future.

Having auditioned for various roles, Aarushi stumbled upon the opportunity to audition for ‘Yellow Bus’ and eventually landed the role, showcasing her passion for acting and theatre. Her dedication to the project led her to prioritize filming over school exams, with the full support of her school. The student looks forward to a promising future in the entertainment industry and cherishes the support and encouragement she has received from her friends and family, who have witnessed her on the silver screen.
