In the first half of this year, Dubai Police revealed that four people lost their lives in accidents involving e-scooters and bicycles, with 25 injuries recorded. Over 7,800 traffic violations were reported in the same period, leading to the confiscation of 4,474 e-scooters and bicycles. This shows the seriousness of the issue, with an average of 43 traffic violations and 24 seizures daily in Dubai.

Major-General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, assistant commandant for Operations Affairs, emphasized the significant risks associated with using e-scooters and bicycles in unauthorized areas or on public roads. Fines of up to Dh300 apply for violations such as riding on roads with a speed limit exceeding 60kmph, riding dangerously, carrying passengers on e-scooters, and riding against traffic. Users are advised to stick to designated lanes, wear appropriate clothing and helmets, and avoid riding at night or in adverse weather conditions to ensure safety.

Residents were encouraged to report violations to the police via their app or the emergency hotline 901. E-scooters have gained popularity as a mode of transport in Dubai, but complaints from pedestrians and motorists about reckless riding behavior have been on the rise. Many e-scooter users are seen zooming dangerously on streets, including driving against the flow of traffic. In response to these concerns, authorities have considered implementing a registration system for e-scooters to enhance accountability and safety measures.

To address the increasing number of accidents and ensure the safety of all road users, it is crucial for e-scooter and bicycle riders to abide by traffic regulations and guidelines. By following the rules, wearing appropriate safety gear, and respecting designated lanes, the risk of accidents can be significantly reduced. Additionally, authorities are continuously monitoring and enforcing traffic laws to deter violations and promote safe and responsible riding practices.

As e-scooters continue to be a popular choice for urban transportation in Dubai, it is important for both users and authorities to work together to create a safer environment for everyone. With increased awareness, proper enforcement of regulations, and collaborative efforts, the risks associated with e-scooter and bicycle accidents can be minimized. By staying informed, following safety precautions, and reporting violations, residents can contribute to ensuring a safer and more secure road network in the city.
