The Bahrain Center for Strategic International and Energy Studies (Derasat) recently collaborated with the United Nations in Bahrain to organize a dialogue session between the United Nations and various civil society organizations. This session, held at Derasat’s headquarters in Awali on 29th April 2024, aimed to facilitate discussions on the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDCF) for the years 2025-2029 in Bahrain. The event provided a platform for open conversations and collaboration between civil society groups and the United Nations to support sustainable development initiatives in the country.

Participants at the dialogue session had the opportunity to share their opinions, contribute ideas, and explore potential partnerships to advance sustainable development in Bahrain. The event began with opening remarks from Mr. Khaled El-Mekwad, the United Nations’ Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, who emphasized the importance of engaging civil society in achieving the sustainable development goals. Mr. El-Mekwad also highlighted the significance of the dialogue session in strengthening partnerships between the United Nations and local organizations to drive sustainable development efforts forward.

Dr. Hamad Ebrahim Al-Abdulla, Executive Director of Derasat Center, also addressed the attendees during the event, underscoring Derasat’s strategic partnership with various United Nations programs. Dr. Al-Abdulla reiterated the Center’s commitment to actively contribute to the global sustainable development agenda, showcasing Derasat’s dedication to supporting initiatives that promote sustainability and positive growth in Bahrain. The collaboration between Derasat and the United Nations reflects a shared commitment to working together towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for the country.

The dialogue session provided a valuable platform for civil society organizations to engage with the United Nations and contribute to shaping the UNSDCF for Bahrain’s sustainable development goals. By fostering collaboration and encouraging open discussions, the event sought to create a conducive environment for partnerships that can drive impactful and meaningful change in the country. The active participation of various stakeholders in these discussions signifies a shared vision for a more sustainable and resilient Bahrain, where all sectors work together towards common goals of progress and prosperity.

Overall, the dialogue session organized by Derasat and the United Nations in Bahrain exemplified a strong commitment to partnership, collaboration, and inclusive decision-making in advancing sustainable development goals. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, the event created a platform for meaningful dialogue and engagement on key issues related to sustainability and development. The outcomes of this session are expected to inform the development of the UNSDCF for Bahrain and guide future initiatives that will contribute to the country’s sustainable development journey.
