On Sunday morning, Deputy Emir of Makkah Region Prince Saud bin Mishaal led the annual ceremonial washing of the Holy Kaaba on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz. The ceremony began with the washing of the interior wall of the Kaaba using Zamzam water mixed with rose water. Following the washing, Prince Saud performed two units of Tawaf around the Kaaba. This annual tradition is carried out using Zamzam water mixed with rose water, oud, and other perfumes, following the example set by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The washing of the Holy Kaaba is a sacred and symbolic ritual that is customary for the Saudi monarch or his representative to perform. The interior walls of the Kaaba are cleansed with a white cloth dipped in rose and musk perfumes, as well as Zamzam water mixed with rose perfume. Towels are used to wipe the walls of the Kaaba, while the floor is splashed with Zamzam water and wiped with bare hands and palm leaves. This ritual is a way to honor and maintain the sanctity of the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Hajj and Umrah and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Dr. Tawfiq Al Rabeeah, and the President of Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais. The presence of these esteemed religious leaders adds to the significance of the event and emphasizes the importance of maintaining the purity of the Holy Kaaba.

The annual washing of the Holy Kaaba is a tradition that dates back centuries and is deeply rooted in Islamic history. The act of washing the Kaaba is a symbolic gesture of purification and renewal, as well as a way to show reverence and respect for the sacred structure. By using Zamzam water, rose water, and other fragrances, the ceremony not only cleanses the Kaaba physically but also imbues it with a sense of spirituality and divine fragrance.

The ritual washing of the Holy Kaaba is a highly anticipated event that marks the beginning of the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia. It is a time when Muslims from around the world come together to perform the pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah. The symbolic act of washing the Kaaba serves as a reminder of the unity of the Muslim ummah and the importance of spiritual purification in preparing for the sacred journey of Hajj.

In conclusion, the annual washing of the Holy Kaaba is a significant and sacred ritual that highlights the reverence and respect that Muslims hold for the holiest site in Islam. Led by Deputy Emir of Makkah Region Prince Saud bin Mishaal, the ceremony symbolizes purification, renewal, and spiritual preparation for the Hajj season. With the use of Zamzam water, rose water, and other perfumes, the Kaaba is cleansed and imbued with a sense of divine fragrance. This tradition, rooted in Islamic history and practice, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of spiritual purity and reverence for the sacred sites of Islam.
