The upcoming third session of the Council of Representatives (2024-2025) is stirring up intense competition for leadership positions within various parliamentary committees. One committee that has garnered particular attention is the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming session. The committee will be responsible for handling crucial bills and projects, including the state’s general budget, which will be up for debate between the legislative and executive branches.

Sources within the Council have revealed that five out of the eight members of the Financial Committee have expressed interest in vying for leadership positions, specifically Chairman and Vice-Chairman roles. Among the candidates for the chairmanship are MPs Mohammed Al Maarefi, Mohammed Al Ahmed, and Ahmed Al Saloum, with Al Ahmed and Al Saloum having previously held the position. Current chairwoman MP Zainab Abdulameer’s intentions regarding re-election remain uncertain, but it is widely speculated that she will not seek another term.

For the Vice-Chairman position, current Vice-Chairwoman MP Eman Shuwaitar and MP Mohammed Al Rifaei have declared their intentions to run. Sources suggest that if MP Mohammed Al Ahmed secures the chairmanship, MP Mohammed Al Rifaei may secure the vice-chairmanship, as they reportedly form an informal bloc within the committee. However, if MP Ahmed Al Saloum or another candidate wins the chairmanship, the vice-chairmanship is likely to go to a different MP.

The competition for leadership positions within the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee is a crucial aspect of the upcoming session of the Council of Representatives. The decisions made by the committee will have a significant impact on the state’s general budget and other important bills and projects. With multiple candidates vying for the leadership roles, the race is heating up, and alliances are forming within the committee to secure key positions.

The role of the Financial Committee within the Council of Representatives is essential for ensuring sound financial management and economic policies in Bahrain. The leadership positions within the committee will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s economic future and handling important legislative matters. As the countdown to the third session of the Council begins, the competition for leadership positions within the committee will continue to intensify.

As the competition for the chairmanship and vice-chairmanship of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee unfolds, the political landscape within the Council of Representatives is likely to shift. The dynamics within the committee, including potential alliances and blocs, will have a significant impact on the committee’s decision-making process and the outcomes of important debates. The upcoming session promises to be a challenging and eventful period for the Financial Committee and its members.
