British author Graeme Wilson, who has been residing in the UAE since 1990, has written numerous books, including biographies on global leaders, and has a compelling story to share. Some of the leaders he mentioned who have collectively impacted a billion lives worldwide are the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. During a session at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, Wilson showcased two volumes of his research works, covering 2,000 budget allocations by rulers in 165 countries.

One of Wilson’s intriguing revelations was the role of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohammed in the ban on commercial whaling, which saved many species from extinction. He also highlighted how Sheikh Zayed’s funding of a census across Africa led to a global ban on ivory, ultimately saving African elephants. Additionally, Wilson emphasized Sheikh Zayed’s contribution to uplifting the cocoa production industry in the Ivory Coast, benefiting thousands of families.

Wilson also shared heartwarming stories about Sheikh Mohammed, including one where he personally provided a traditional potion to a minister with a cold. Another anecdote involved former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher being impressed by a well-organized establishment overseen by Sheikh Mohammed in Dubai. Wilson pointed out that honesty is paramount when dealing with Sheikh Mohammed, as he has an incredible memory and can detect lies easily.

The author stressed the importance of recording and preserving the stories of UAE leaders like Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, as many of their significant contributions are unknown to the public. He highlighted the need to document these instances to ensure their legacy lives on. Wilson has written several books about these leaders, including works on Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, and is set to release a biography of Sheikh Mohammed next month, describing it as the greatest book he has ever written.

Overall, Graeme Wilson’s insights into the impactful contributions of UAE leaders shed light on their profound influence globally and emphasize the importance of preserving their stories for future generations to appreciate. The stories shared by Wilson not only showcase the humanitarian initiatives undertaken by these leaders but also highlight their personal touch and attention to detail in their interactions with others. By documenting their legacy, Wilson ensures that the remarkable achievements of these leaders are remembered and revered for years to come.
