Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto dedicated his team’s first-ever Test cricket win against Pakistan to the individuals who lost their lives during protests that led to the resignation of former premier Sheikh Hasina. The protests, led by students, resulted in more than 450 deaths, with many individuals killed by police fire. Despite facing challenges in preparation for the tour to Pakistan, including travel warnings that prevented foreign coaches from attending training sessions, Bangladesh managed to secure a historic 10-wicket victory in the first Test.

Led by a record score against Pakistan of 565, Bangladesh dominated the first innings and led by 117 runs. Spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan played a crucial role in dismissing Pakistan for just 146 runs on the final day of the Test match. Bangladesh then easily chased down the required 30 runs without losing a wicket, marking a momentous victory for the team. The win was particularly special for Najmul, who was celebrating his 26th birthday on the same day, and he expressed his joy at the team’s achievement.

Najmul praised his bowlers for their exceptional performance and singled out veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim for his outstanding innings of 191 runs in the first innings. The captain credited Rahim’s resilience and experience for setting the foundation for Bangladesh’s success in the match. On the other hand, Pakistan skipper Shan Masood expressed his disappointment at the team’s poor performance and apologized to the Pakistani fans for not delivering the expected result. Masood acknowledged Bangladesh’s discipline and strength in playing to their potential, denying that his team underestimated their opponents.

Looking ahead to the second Test match, Masood emphasized the need for his players to rectify their mistakes and work hard to make a strong comeback. Despite the setback in the first Test, Masood expressed hope that the Pakistani team would be able to raise their game and deliver a better performance in the upcoming match. The second Test is scheduled to begin in Rawalpindi on Friday, and both teams will be aiming to put their best foot forward and compete at the highest level. Bangladesh’s victory in the first Test has set the stage for an intriguing battle between the two sides in the remainder of the series.
