Her Excellency Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board, recently participated in the ministerial segment of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York. The annual forum, held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council, provides a platform to assess progress and challenges faced in advancing the UN 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. Alkhulaif showcased Bahrain’s efforts in accelerating SDG implementation, highlighting the nation’s dedication to a sustainable future through building a low-carbon economy and fostering a thriving green economy.

During the high-level segment titled “From the SDG Summit to the Summit of the Future”, Alkhulaif presented Bahrain’s initiatives announced by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, reaffirming international cooperation and fostering global peace. She also spoke about Bahrain’s focus on economic development, guided by directives from HM the King and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in formulating Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2050, prioritizing social and cultural development while preserving the heritage of Bahraini cities. Furthermore, she emphasized on empowering youth and recognizing their vital role in shaping a sustainable future.

Beyond environmental initiatives, Bahrain’s dedication to a sustainable future was further emphasized by the ambitious bilateral meetings during the Forum. Discussions focused on Bahrain’s roadmap to achieving carbon neutrality through building a low-carbon economy, adapting to climate change, and fostering a thriving green economy. Alkhulaif also engaged in a number of bilateral meetings with key figures, including the President of the UN General Assembly, emphasizing the value of the Forum as a crucial platform for monitoring progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and expressing anticipation for the outcomes of the upcoming Summit of the Future.

Her Excellency also met with Dr. Rola Dashti, the Executive Secretary for the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), to discuss Bahrain’s efforts in developing the SDG database and potential collaborations to accelerate sustainable development in Bahrain. Ambassador Francis commended Bahrain’s leadership in implementing the SDGs, especially highlighting the establishment of a dedicated Ministry for Sustainable Development. The discussions further emphasized the importance of international cooperation and exchange of best practices to overcome the developmental, economic, and societal challenges facing the world in achieving the desired sustainable development goals.

In conclusion, the participation of Her Excellency Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development highlights Bahrain’s commitment to accelerating SDG implementation and fostering a sustainable future. Through showcasing Bahrain’s efforts in environmental initiatives, economic development, and youth empowerment, the Kingdom is demonstrating its dedication to achieving the UN 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. The bilateral meetings held during the Forum further emphasize the value of international collaboration and exchange of best practices in accelerating sustainable development efforts in Bahrain. As the world faces various challenges, it is crucial for countries to come together and strengthen international cooperation to achieve the desired sustainable development goals for a better future.
