Oman’s Bab Al Salam Mosque has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 best places to visit in 2024. With its unique design by architect Marwan Al Balushi, the mosque stands out for its innovative architecture that blends tradition with modernity. Described as a “tranquil complex of blush-colored circular structures,” the Bab Al Salam Mosque has received praise for its sustainable design and commitment to environmental consciousness.

Time magazine commended the mosque for seamlessly integrating with the natural landscape and emphasized its sustainability features, such as energy-efficient lighting and the use of locally sourced materials. The article highlighted how the mosque represents a new wave in mosque design in the Middle East, combining tradition, sustainability, and functionality into a singular architectural masterpiece.

Architect Marwan Al Balushi expressed his surprise and pride at the recognition, noting that it was an honor for his team to have their work featured in such a prestigious magazine. Despite facing challenges during the project’s development, including initial rejection of his design and concept, Al Balushi and his team were able to create a space that has changed how sacred spaces are perceived.

The Bab Al Salam Mosque symbolizes Oman’s forward-thinking approach to design and culture, bridging the past and future in a breathtaking edifice. In addition to the Bab Al Salam Mosque, Time’s list of 100 Places to Visit in 2024 includes a diverse range of cultural, natural, and architectural wonders from around the world, showcasing the richness and variety of experiences available to travelers in the coming year. Time’s recognition of the Bab Al Salam Mosque highlights the architectural beauty and innovation that can be found in Oman’s cultural landscape.
