The fourth ordinary session of the first legislative term in Qatar kicked off with the patronage of Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The session, corresponding to the 53rd annual session of the Shura Council, focused on various aspects of the country’s economic situation and progress. The Amir emphasized the state’s commitment to sustainable growth, financial stability, and economic diversification.

The Qatari economy has shown resilience and growth despite challenges, with GDP estimated to increase by 2% by the end of the year. The country’s inflation rate has also decreased, reflecting successful fiscal policies. The state has reduced public debt levels and improved its credit rating, positioning itself well for future economic challenges. The government is focused on strategic spending to support key sectors and initiatives outlined in the Third National Development Strategy.

In efforts to promote local production and support the private sector, Qatar has implemented the in-country value program and launched initiatives to boost various economic sectors. The state is also committed to environmental sustainability, with the introduction of the first sovereign green financing framework in the region. These efforts aim to attract local and international investment while ensuring transparency and adherence to global standards.

In terms of foreign policy, Qatar prioritizes regional cooperation and mediation to address global challenges. The Amir highlighted the country’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause and efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the region. Qatar condemns the Israeli aggression in Lebanon and calls for international resolutions to end the violence. The country’s foreign policy is guided by principles of justice, dialogue, and preventive diplomacy.

The Amir also addressed constitutional and legislative amendments aimed at promoting equal citizenship and strengthening national unity. The proposed changes include provisions for electing two-thirds of the Shura Council members, enhancing citizen participation, and ensuring equal rights and duties. The government is committed to upholding justice and equality under the law, while preserving the country’s unique governance structure rooted in shura and citizen-government relationships.

In closing, the Amir expressed gratitude to the Shura Council members for their dedication to serving the country and urged all citizens to participate in the upcoming referendum on constitutional amendments. He emphasized the importance of unity, wisdom, and faith in shaping the country’s future. The speech underlined Qatar’s determination to navigate challenges, uphold core values, and advance towards a prosperous and inclusive future for all its citizens.
