The Chairman of the Shura Council, Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, recently met with Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoomi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, during his official visit to Oman. Al Maawali highlighted the important role of the Arab Parliament in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and supporting joint Arab action. He praised the Parliament’s support for Arab issues at regional and international events and emphasized Oman’s commitment to participating in Arab Parliament activities. Al Asoomi, on the other hand, commended Oman’s balanced stance on Arab issues and its support for peaceful coexistence, especially in backing the Palestinian cause. He also appreciated Oman’s active involvement in Arab Parliament activities and the significant contributions of the Shura Council in enhancing the Parliament’s performance.

Al Asoomi noted that Oman’s parliamentary practice reflects the country’s wise political policy and has been successful in exercising powers and positively impacting both locally and internationally. The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Shura Council and the Arab Parliament to serve common interests and address regional and international parliamentary union agendas. Al Asoomi and his delegation also had the opportunity to tour the Council of Oman, observing its modern techniques in running sessions and its architectural structure inspired by Omani heritage. They visited the council’s library, learning about its role in promoting legislative action and expanding general knowledge through its resources.

The meeting was attended by various Omani officials, including the deputies to the Shura Council Chairman, the Secretary-General of the Shura Council, a Member of the State Council, and other members of the Shura Council. Representatives from the Arab Parliament also participated in the meeting, with the deputy head of the Committee for Social, Educational, and Cultural Affairs, Women’s and Youth Affairs, and other members present. Overall, the meeting highlighted the strong relationship between Oman and the Arab Parliament, as well as the common goals shared in advancing joint Arab action and parliamentary diplomacy.

In conclusion, the meeting between the Chairman of the Shura Council and the Speaker of the Arab Parliament emphasized the importance of fostering cooperation between Oman and the Arab Parliament to support shared interests and address regional and international issues. Both sides praised each other’s contributions to parliamentary diplomacy and reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen joint Arab action. The visit also provided an opportunity for the Arab Parliament delegation to witness firsthand the innovative practices and rich heritage of the Council of Oman, highlighting the significance of building bridges between countries through parliamentary exchanges and collaborations.
