Doha, Qatar – The Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025 concluded Sunday at the Lusail International Circuit (LIC), drawing a total attendance of 162,972 spectators over three days of high-speed racing. Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing secured his third consecutive victory at LIC, intensifying the championship battle as the season heads to its finale in Abu Dhabi. The event underscored Qatar’s growing prominence as a global motorsport hub.

The race weekend featured a mix of thrilling on-track action and off-track entertainment, attracting a diverse international audience. While a Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East race was cancelled following an early-lap incident, the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race provided a compelling support event, with Victor Martins taking the win. The atmosphere was further enhanced by a Formula 1 Drivers’ Parade and a captivating drone show.

Verstappen Dominates the Qatar Grand Prix

Max Verstappen’s victory in the 57-lap Formula 1 race was a display of strategic prowess and driving skill. Starting from third on the grid, he quickly overtook Lando Norris and then expertly managed the race to finish with a time of 1:24:38.241, securing a significant lead over his rivals. Oscar Piastri finished second, 7.995 seconds behind, while Carlos Sainz completed the podium in third.

Race Highlights and Championship Implications

The race wasn’t without its drama. George Russell experienced a challenging start, dropping three positions early on. However, the focus remained on the championship standings, with Verstappen now holding a 12-point advantage over Lando Norris heading into the final race. The strategic use of tire management and a well-timed safety car played crucial roles in the outcome.

Qatar’s Commitment to Motorsport and Sustainability

The successful hosting of the Qatar Grand Prix highlights Qatar’s commitment to diversifying its economy and establishing itself as a premier destination for international sporting events, aligning with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. Abdulrahman bin Abdullatif Al Mannai, President of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation and Lusail International Circuit, emphasized the event’s success in fostering inclusivity and showcasing Qatar’s capabilities.

Sustainability was a key priority throughout the weekend. Initiatives included the use of 100% recycled rPET bottles, upcycled event banners, a food donation program, and a 1.23 Megawatt rooftop solar array powering the circuit. Free hydration stations and readily available sun protection further promoted responsible fan behavior. The event also engaged 665 volunteers from 107 nationalities, providing valuable experience and contributing to the smooth operation of the race weekend.

The event also boosted motorsport tourism in the region, attracting fans and generating economic activity. The LIC’s volunteer program, relaunching for the 2025 Grand Prix, demonstrated a commitment to community engagement and skill development.

Looking ahead, Lusail International Circuit is preparing to host other major motorsport events, including MotoGP and the Qatar 1812 KM – World Endurance championship. The circuit’s continued success will depend on maintaining its commitment to sustainability, fan experience, and operational excellence. The final championship outcome in Abu Dhabi will be a key factor to watch, as will any potential adjustments to the race calendar for future seasons.
