His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik presided over a meeting of the Council of Ministers at Al Barakah Palace where he expressed gratitude and hope for the year 2025 to be a year of accomplishments. He commended the efforts of the Council of Ministers and various government departments in achieving economic diversification and social development in Oman over the past year. His focus was on enhancing economic growth, promoting the private sector, and implementing the National Local Content Policy to boost Omani industries and exports while reducing dependency on imports.

The Council of Ministers reviewed the State’s General Budget for fiscal year 2025 and the framework for the 11th Five Year Plan (2026-2030), emphasizing the need to assess and complete remaining projects of the current Five Year Plan and incorporate priorities outlined in Oman Vision. His Majesty also stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination among different government departments to stimulate economic growth, create job opportunities, and improve the country’s overall indices.

In the health sector, His Majesty expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes achieved and approved the establishment of the National Genome and Human Data Centre, as well as a National Centre for Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery to enhance specialized health services. Additionally, a national program for early cancer detection among women and the expansion of nuclear medicine services were approved to address escalating healthcare demands.

The Council of Ministers also discussed the Social Protection Scheme aimed at providing social care and support, enhancing social solidarity, and promoting economic stability. They stressed the need for ongoing assessment of the Scheme’s performance to ensure its effectiveness. The National Employment Programme was also highlighted, with efforts being made to integrate economic sectors generating employment opportunities and expedite the employment of the national workforce.

His Majesty instructed the Council of Ministers to address social and demographic challenges facing the population and develop specific programmes and policies to find appropriate solutions. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining cooperation with Arab and friendly countries to achieve common interests in line with Oman’s principles. In conclusion, His Majesty spoke about various aspects of interest to the Omani nation, giving his noble directives for further success and prosperity.
