The 16th edition of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival, also known as Marmi 2025, has officially kicked off in Doha. The event, which will run until February 1, 2025, is being held at the Marmi area in Sealine and is under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani. Supported by the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM) and organized by the Qatari Society of Algannas (AGQS), the festival began with the Haddad Al-Tahaddi contest where 23 groups competed, with the Farkh Shaheen falcons emerging as the winners.

Marmi Festival Chairman, Miteb Mubarak Al Qahtani, emphasized the importance of passing on the falconry legacy to future generations. He noted that the event aims to instill falconry in the hearts of children and young people to ensure that they become true guardians of this tradition. Al Qahtani highlighted the annual nature of the festival and how the record turnout from visitors reflects the community’s interest in this popular legacy. The event has become a significant part of Qatar’s major events calendar, showcasing year-on-year successes and attracting a large number of Qatari and Gulf community members.

Vice-Chairman of the Marmi Festival, Abdulwaheb bin Omair Al Nuaimi, emphasized the crucial role of the festival in preserving the falconry legacy. He noted that the 16th edition serves as a platform to support falconers and hunting enthusiasts, as evidenced by the record turnout of participants. Al Nuaimi also highlighted the festival’s appeal to foreign tourists who want to learn about falconry legacy, as well as locals and residents looking to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere at Marmi area in Sealine. The organizing committee ensures that visitors have all the necessary amenities to make their experience memorable.

The Chairman of the Hadad Al Tahadi Committee, Shawi Al Kaabi, praised the efforts of the falconers during the early days of the event. He emphasized the popularity of the Hadad Al Tahadi competition, which draws large crowds of spectators. Several falconers participating in the festival expressed their appreciation to AGQS for their support and commitment to hosting events that promote this unique legacy. The festival’s primary goal is to enhance falconry, a tradition that is recognized by UNESCO and one that Qatar has worked diligently to preserve both locally and internationally.

In conclusion, the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival continues to be a significant event on Qatar’s calendar, attracting participants and spectators from both the local and international community. The festival plays a crucial role in preserving the falconry legacy and passing it on to future generations. With ongoing support from organizations like AGQS and a commitment to hosting successful events, the festival has solidified its position as a platform for showcasing falconry tradition. As the first country to make efforts to preserve this global heritage, Qatar remains dedicated to enhancing falconry and ensuring that it remains a valued part of its cultural heritage.
