Qatar and Vietnam Agree to Enhance Bilateral Relations in Joint Statement

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Viet Nam paid an official visit to Qatar at the invitation of His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. This visit marked the first official visit by a Prime Minister of Viet Nam to Qatar in 15 years, highlighting the importance of the relationship between the two countries. During his visit, Prime Minister Chinh met with several Qatari officials, including the Amir of Qatar, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other key ministers and leaders.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made in their 30-year bilateral relationship, which has seen cooperation expand across various fields. They pledged to enhance exchanges at all levels and strengthen people-to-people ties to further advance their cooperation. Both countries aim to deepen political trust and elevate their relationship to a more advanced level through a comprehensive and effective Partnership. This includes negotiating agreements in areas such as visa exemptions, labor, economics, and trade to expand market access and promote economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

In addition to economic collaboration, the two sides also pledged to enhance defense and security cooperation to maintain peace and cooperation in the region and globally. They recognized the importance of promoting education, tourism, and cultural exchanges to strengthen people-to-people connections and mutual understanding. Both countries agreed to increase scholarships for students and explore cooperation in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and clean energy.

During the visit, several bilateral agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed to enhance cooperation in various fields. These agreements aim to strengthen cooperation in air services, sports, the legal field, diplomatic training and education, and investment cooperation. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues, emphasizing the importance of upholding international law and resolving disputes through diplomatic means to maintain peace, stability, and security.

Both sides expressed confidence in the promising future of Viet Nam – Qatar relations and committed to implementing the outcomes of high-level visits. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended invitations from Vietnamese leaders to Qatari officials, which were well-received. This visit highlights the growing bilateral relationship between Viet Nam and Qatar, with a focus on enhancing cooperation across various sectors and strengthening ties between the two countries.
