Minister of Public Health, H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari recently participated in the World Health Organization’s investment round in Doha, where pledges of $36 million were gathered for the WHO in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. In her address, she emphasized the importance of investing in global health, stating that it is essential for global stability, security, and prosperity. Qatar has been proactive in supporting the WHO, providing core voluntary contributions to help with the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergencies.
Dr Al Kuwari expressed Qatar’s commitment to supporting the WHO’s 14th General Programme of Work, highlighting the need for ongoing, reliable, and long-term funding to strengthen global health systems. She stressed the importance of cooperation to ensure that the WHO remains prepared to lead global health efforts in the future. The Minister believes that securing sustainable funding for the WHO is not only necessary but also a moral obligation to future generations.
