The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar recently celebrated World Food Day by launching an extensive awareness campaign. The campaign included a variety of activities aimed at promoting food safety among students and the wider community. One key component of the campaign was the dissemination of special messages about food safety through school social media accounts and online platforms, as well as the distribution of brochures and booklets related to the topic. Additionally, awareness workshops were held to discuss critical projects of the Food Safety Department within the Ministry, engaging strategic partners and stakeholders in decision-making related to food safety.

One of the workshops presented during the campaign was titled ‘Understand Your Body,’ which aimed to enhance healthy food awareness among participants. The workshop included training on calculating calories in food recipes and determining each individual’s calorie needs through a simple test. Participants also had the opportunity to prepare healthy recipes that matched their needs, as well as engage in a competition for creating a balanced and nutritious meal. This workshop provided valuable information and practical skills for individuals to make healthier food choices in their daily lives.

The Health Promotion Department of the Ministry of Public Health also participated in the event by setting up an awareness booth that offered educational pamphlets, body mass index measurements, health consultations, and models of healthy foods. This provided attendees with valuable information and resources to further their understanding of the importance of food safety and healthy eating. The involvement of the Health Promotion Department demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting health and well-being among the population, particularly through initiatives like World Food Day celebrations.

Schools across Qatar joined in the World Food Day celebrations by organizing a variety of events, including health awareness lectures, educational workshops, and recreational educational trips. Interactive activities such as preparing healthy meals and participating in competitions were also part of the festivities. Mariam Al Nasif Al Bouainin, Director of the Schools and Students Affairs Department, highlighted the importance of such events in enhancing ongoing efforts to promote food safety and raise awareness about the roles of individuals and organizations in ensuring safe and nutritious food for all.

Overall, the World Food Day celebrations organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar served as an important platform for promoting food safety and healthy eating habits among students and the wider community. The campaign included a range of activities aimed at increasing awareness about the significance of food safety and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their diet and nutrition. The involvement of strategic partners and stakeholders in decision-making processes related to food safety further emphasized the collaborative efforts needed to ensure a safe and healthy food environment for all. Through workshops, awareness booths, and interactive activities, participants were able to gain valuable knowledge and skills to make healthier food choices, contributing to a culture of wellness and well-being in Qatar.
