The Bahrain Red Crescent Society recently hosted a workshop titled “Disaster Assessment” in collaboration with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization. The workshop aimed to enhance disaster management skills among members and affiliates of National Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies. Led by Mrs. Fathia Al-Toblani, the Head of the Disaster Management Team at BRCS, the workshop covered various critical topics, including the significance of evaluation in disaster management, best international practices, and the media’s role during crises. Participants also learned about modern tools and methods for assessing disaster impacts and needs, as well as how to use assessment results for informed decision-making.

During the workshop, Mrs. Al-Toblani emphasized the importance of equipping volunteers with the necessary skills to provide assistance in disaster management according to international standards. She highlighted key principles of disaster management and rehabilitation, coordination and response mechanisms, emergency needs assessment, provision of relief and humanitarian aid, teamwork development, and effective actions during and after disasters. Mrs. Al-Toblani stressed the significance of enhancing the capacities of personnel involved in disaster management within National Societies to ensure rapid and accurate assessments following a disaster, leading to swift responses and essential assistance for affected individuals.

Mrs. Al-Toblani expressed gratitude to the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization for their continual support of BRCS’s disaster management initiatives. She noted that these collaborations align with the Society’s strategic plans to establish relief teams, engage volunteers, and uphold the goals and principles of the Arab Crescent and Red Cross Organization. By contributing to Bahrain’s national efforts to address disasters, these partnerships play a crucial role in strengthening disaster management capabilities and enhancing response mechanisms within the country.

The workshop served as a platform for participants to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices in disaster assessment and management. By sharing insights on international standards and modern tools for assessing disaster impacts, participants were able to enhance their skills and understanding of effective disaster response strategies. The workshop also emphasized the importance of teamwork development and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to disasters.

As part of its commitment to improving disaster management capabilities, BRCS continues to prioritize training and capacity-building initiatives for its volunteers and personnel. By equipping individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge, the Society aims to strengthen its disaster response capabilities and ensure a timely and effective response to emergencies. Through partnerships with organizations like the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization, BRCS is able to access resources, expertise, and best practices to enhance its disaster management initiatives and contribute to national disaster preparedness efforts.

Overall, the workshop on “Disaster Assessment” organized by BRCS in collaboration with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization was a significant step towards enhancing disaster management skills and capabilities among National Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies. By equipping volunteers and personnel with the necessary tools and knowledge, the workshop aimed to strengthen disaster response mechanisms, improve coordination and collaboration, and enhance the overall effectiveness of disaster management efforts. Through ongoing partnerships and initiatives, BRCS remains committed to building resilient communities and ensuring a swift and efficient response to disasters in Bahrain and beyond.
