The Bahrain Red Crescent Society recently hosted a workshop titled “Disaster Assessment” in collaboration with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization. The workshop aimed to enhance disaster management skills among members and affiliates of National Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies. Led by Mrs. Fathia Al-Toblani, the Head of the Disaster Management Team at BRCS, the workshop covered various critical topics, including the significance of evaluation in disaster management, best international practices, and the media’s role during crises. Participants also learned about modern tools and methods for assessing disaster impacts and needs, as well as how to use assessment results for informed decision-making.
During the workshop, Mrs. Al-Toblani emphasized the importance of equipping volunteers with the necessary skills to provide assistance in disaster management according to international standards. She highlighted key principles of disaster management and rehabilitation, coordination and response mechanisms, emergency needs assessment, provision of relief and humanitarian aid, teamwork development, and effective actions during and after disasters. Mrs. Al-Toblani stressed the significance of enhancing the capacities of personnel involved in disaster management within National Societies to ensure rapid and accurate assessments following a disaster, leading to swift responses and essential assistance for affected individuals.
