India showcased their dominance in the first Test against Bangladesh by extending their lead to 308 runs after fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah played a crucial role in bundling out the visitors for 149 runs on the second day of the match. The hosts ended the day at 81-3 in their second innings with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana made early breakthroughs for Bangladesh by dismissing Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed Virat Kohli.

Former skipper Shakib Al Hasan top-scored for Bangladesh with 32 runs as they were dismissed in the final session in response to India’s first-innings total of 376. India decided not to enforce the follow-on and built on their lead of 227 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin’s century, supported by a valuable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, helped India post a challenging total. India’s bowlers came out firing in the second innings, reducing Bangladesh to 40-5 before Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das stabilised the innings with a partnership.

Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep played crucial roles with the ball, making important breakthroughs to keep the pressure on Bangladesh. Bumrah’s bouncers and yorkers troubled the visitors, while Mohammed Siraj also chipped in with key wickets. Hasan Mahmud starred for Bangladesh with a five-wicket haul, rattling the Indian batting lineup on the first day. Ashwin was the standout performer for India, scoring a century before being dismissed by Taskin. Hasan completed his five-wicket haul to wrap up the Indian innings.

India is aiming to extend their lead in the World Test Championship rankings as they kick off a new season with 10 matches. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have never beaten India in a Test match. The match saw a competitive display of cricket from both teams, with India holding the upper hand going into the remaining days of play. The performances of key players like Bumrah, Ashwin, and Shakib stood out in the match, showcasing their skills and experience on the field. The series will continue to test the strengths and weaknesses of both teams, providing an exciting contest for cricket fans.
