A comprehensive plan to enhance Bahrain’s urban landscape is underway, with a total of 8,300 trees already planted along Shaikh Hamad Avenue in Hamad Town. This project, led by Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, has now entered its third phase, with an additional 2,500 trees set to be added, bringing the total to 10,800. The initiative falls under the National Afforestation Strategy, which aims to increase green spaces, promote biodiversity, and support the country’s overall development goals.

During a recent site visit, Shaikh Mohammed and Engineer Lamya Al Fadhala, Director General of the Northern Municipality, along with other officials, surveyed the progress of the tree planting project. The ministry is collaborating with various agencies to ensure the success of the project and to contribute to environmental preservation efforts. The goal is not only to beautify public spaces but also to improve air quality, provide shade, and create a healthier environment for residents and visitors.

In addition to the current project in Hamad Town, plans are underway to expand tree planting efforts to intersections and public roads in other governorates across the kingdom. This strategic approach will further enhance the greenery in urban areas, making them more aesthetically pleasing and contributing to a sustainable environment. The integration of trees into urban spaces has numerous benefits, from reducing noise pollution to providing habitats for wildlife and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

The National Afforestation Strategy is a key component of Bahrain’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation. By increasing the number of trees and green spaces throughout the country, the government aims to mitigate the impact of urbanization and climate change while creating a more visually appealing and ecologically diverse landscape. The collaboration between the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and other agencies demonstrates a unified effort to protect and enhance Bahrain’s natural resources for future generations.

As part of the broader vision for urban development in Bahrain, tree planting initiatives like the one in Hamad Town play a crucial role in transforming public spaces and creating a more livable environment for residents. The addition of thousands of trees along Shaikh Hamad Avenue is a significant step towards achieving the goals of the National Afforestation Strategy and advancing Bahrain’s environmental objectives. With ongoing efforts to expand tree planting efforts across the kingdom, the future looks brighter for Bahrain’s urban landscape and the well-being of its communities.
