The third edition of the IEEE PowerTalks conference kicked off at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, with a focus on implementing Oman’s energy transformation plans. The event, which runs from September 17-19, brings together local and international experts to discuss Oman’s ambitious energy transition goals. The conference is a joint effort between the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Nama Group, and Raya Services, with support from The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Head of the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, emphasized the importance of the conference as Oman prepares for its energy transition. The country aims to reduce carbon emissions, secure sustainable energy supplies, and align with its economic diversification goals and aspiration to become a regional and global leader, as outlined in Oman Vision 2040. Eng. Abdullah Al Wahaibi, Chair of the IEEE Power & Energy Society in Oman, highlighted the strides Oman is making towards energy efficiency and sustainability.
The conference will explore crucial topics such as energy sector policies, transmission network development, distribution systems, energy efficiency, asset management, renewable energy systems, and energy storage technologies. It aims to showcase Oman’s commitment to a carbon-neutral future and position the country as a leader in the global energy transition. The event includes working papers, visual presentations, specialized discussion sessions, and workshops that delve into the challenges and future developments in Oman’s Power and Energy sector.
Workshops at IEEE PowerTalks 2024 will cover topics such as Carbon Neutral Energy Future, Technologies for Future Grid Stability, Renewable Energy and Storage Technology, Hybrid Gas Turbines, and Smart Grid Technologies. The conference also features an exhibition area where the latest technologies and solutions in the Power and Energy sector are showcased, providing an open platform for researchers and students to present their work. As Oman continues its energy transformation journey, the conference serves as a platform to exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate towards a sustainable energy future.
