Dubai CommerCity, the first free zone dedicated exclusively to digital commerce, recently signed a memorandum of understanding with eBay, a global leader in e-commerce, to boost business growth for companies operating within the free zone. The MoU aims to increase sales and broaden the reach of companies through eBay’s online marketplaces. Companies based in Dubai CommerCity will have the opportunity to connect with international sellers via eBay, benefit from training programs led by platform experts, and receive a complimentary three-month eBay Basic store subscription to enhance their global reach.

In return, Dubai CommerCity will actively support eBay by encouraging companies under its umbrella to participate in workshops, seminars, and educational events organized by eBay. The free zone will also provide the necessary infrastructure to facilitate these programs and offer comprehensive support to users of the eBay digital platform looking to establish their business in Dubai. The collaboration between Dubai CommerCity and eBay was announced during an official ceremony at the Dubai CommerCity headquarters, with both parties’ representatives present.

Abdulrahman Shaheen, executive vice president of operations at Dubai CommerCity, highlighted the significance of the collaboration with eBay in enhancing the digital presence of companies within the free zone. The partnership aims to unlock new growth and investment opportunities for businesses by expanding their reach to over 190 global markets. Shaheen expressed confidence that this initiative will elevate the services and benefits offered by Dubai CommerCity, catering to the diverse needs of its licensed local and international companies with smart logistical facilities, advanced infrastructure, and cutting-edge technology.

Ashish Chabbra, vice-president and general manager of global verticals at eBay, emphasized the company’s focus in the UAE to enable local retailers to sell globally through their marketplace. The collaboration with Dubai CommerCity will enhance the supply of high-demand products from the UAE to global markets, leveraging eBay’s technology and infrastructure to support growth and reshape the digital commerce landscape. Chabbra underscored that the partnership presents an exciting opportunity for forward-thinking companies to leverage eBay’s platform with support from Dubai CommerCity to expand and scale their e-commerce operations globally.

eBay, founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, operates marketplace platforms connecting millions of sellers and buyers across more than 190 markets worldwide. As one of the world’s largest and most vibrant marketplaces, eBay enabled over $73 billion of gross merchandise volume in 2023. The collaboration between Dubai CommerCity and eBay signifies a strategic partnership to facilitate business growth, increase sales, and broaden the global reach of companies operating within the free zone, ultimately driving the growth of e-commerce in the region.
