Crescent Petroleum, the largest privately held upstream Oil & Gas company in the Middle East, has successfully implemented an Oil & Gas industry-specific solution from global technology company SAP. This implementation is part of Crescent Petroleum’s solutions roadmap, which began in 2020 with Phase 1 focusing on plant maintenance, procurement, project systems, finance, human resources, and HSE functions. The Phase 2 implementation involved working closely with SAP Services to implement Upstream Hydrocarbon Accounting Management (UHAM), Integration with Plant Systems, Logistics, Management of Change, Resource Scheduling, and Production Planning. Crescent Petroleum is the first company in the Middle East to deploy the UHAM module within the IS OIL solution stack of S4/HANA, showcasing a significant advancement in its digital transformation journey.

Ravi Kumar, Chief Corporate Officer of Crescent Petroleum, highlighted the benefits of integrating the company’s operations from Wellhead to Customer in Phase 2. This integration allows for a seamless flow of data across different parts of the plant, ensuring a single source of truth across the Company. By digitizing processes, Crescent Petroleum has achieved real-time visibility of information throughout the company, enabling insightful data for future digital initiatives. The collaboration with SAP Services, known for its expertise in the Oil & Gas industry, was crucial in developing specific solutions tailored to Crescent Petroleum’s needs. One example is the custom trucking operations solution using the MII module of SAP, integrated with SAP’s invoicing engine, streamlining processes and improving operational efficiency.

Sergio Maccotta, Senior Vice President of SAP Middle East & Africa – South, emphasized the strategic relationship with Crescent Petroleum, a strong advocate of ‘best practice adoption’ in the Oil & Gas industry. The successful Phase 2 implementation was attributed to the close collaboration of all team members involved, resulting in an integrated solution delivering relevant and reliable data, streamlined processes, enhanced operational efficiency, and easily managed reporting for compliance purposes. The Phase 2 project was executed in a hybrid delivery model, with key activities such as solution workshops and user acceptance testing conducted on-site, while build activities were done remotely. This approach ensured a smooth transition and successful deployment of the solution.

The completion of Phase 2 marks a significant milestone in Crescent Petroleum’s digital transformation journey, enhancing operational efficiency and enabling strategic growth across its regional footprint. The company’s commitment to leveraging SAP’s technology solutions to optimize its Oil & Gas operations underscores its dedication to innovation and excellence in the industry. With a focus on integrating data and processes seamlessly, Crescent Petroleum is well-positioned to drive further digital initiatives and achieve its broader objectives of providing real-time visibility and insightful data for future growth.

Crescent Petroleum’s success story in deploying SAP’s Oil & Gas industry-specific solution highlights the importance of strategic partnerships and collaboration in driving digital transformation in the Oil & Gas sector. By embracing best practices and leveraging technology to streamline operations, companies like Crescent Petroleum can accelerate their growth, improve efficiency, and stay ahead of the competition. As the first company in the Middle East to roll out the UHAM module within the IS OIL solution stack of S4/HANA, Crescent Petroleum sets a benchmark for others in the industry to follow in their digital transformation journey.
