Dr Ahmed Al Gharib, a specialist in internal medicine, recently addressed concerns about a new virus known as Mpox. This contagious illness, characterized by fever and a rash, was originally discovered in monkeys but has since been renamed Mpox by the World Health Organization in late 2022. Dr Al Gharib explained that the virus can spread from person to person through contact with the rash or bodily fluids. He also highlighted transmission routes such as sexual activity, touching contaminated surfaces, and inhaling droplets from an infected individual. Pregnant women can also transmit the virus to their unborn child.

Although Mpox can be concerning, Dr Al Gharib reassured the public that most cases resolve on their own within a few weeks. He stressed the importance of following medical advice, including isolation, using antiviral medications, and applying topical creams to alleviate symptoms. Additionally, he recommended vaccination against smallpox as a means of providing some protection against Mpox. Frequent handwashing, sanitizing surfaces, and avoiding contact with symptomatic individuals were also advised as preventative measures.

In conclusion, Dr Al Gharib urged the public to stay informed and adhere to the latest guidelines issued by health authorities. He emphasized the role of health institutions in providing accurate information and resources to combat the spread of Mpox. By following these recommendations and taking necessary precautions, individuals can help prevent the transmission of the virus and protect themselves and their communities from potential outbreaks. Stay tuned for more updates and information on Mpox from health experts like Dr Ahmed Al Gharib.
