The Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, HH Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tarik Al Said, recently participated in the third virtual Leaders’ Summit of the Voice of the Global South, assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. In his speech, Sayyid Asa’ad emphasized the importance of cooperation in facing the various challenges that affect global security and stability. He highlighted the need for sustainable solutions through dialogue, cooperation, and joint action, especially in the face of recent political and economic upheavals, armed conflicts, and regional tensions.

One of the key issues discussed during the summit was the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab lands since 1967. Sayyid Asa’ad called for a just and fair solution to the Palestinian issue, stressing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on their land. He condemned Israel’s violations of international law and human rights, emphasizing the importance of the international community’s involvement in resolving the conflict and achieving peace and stability in the region.

Sayyid Asa’ad also highlighted Oman’s commitment to sustainable development through its ‘Oman Vision 2040’, which aims to achieve a diversified and sustainable economy based on innovation and knowledge. The country has set ambitious goals to achieve zero carbon neutrality by 2050 through strategies focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency. He stressed the importance of collective cooperation at the regional and international levels to build prosperous and sustainable economies in the global south.

The summit addressed a range of issues affecting developing countries, with a particular focus on climate change and its impact on these nations. Collaborative solutions were discussed to promote economic growth that is inclusive and environmentally sustainable, with an emphasis on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Sayyid Asa’ad reaffirmed Oman’s support for the principles of the summit and its commitment to working with other countries in the global south to achieve common goals for development, prosperity, security, and stability.

The meeting was chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the participation of several heads of state and government. Sayyid Asa’ad extended special congratulations to India on its Independence Day, recognizing the country’s achievements and contributions to the global south. Overall, the summit provided a platform for leaders to discuss and address key issues facing developing countries, highlighting the importance of cooperation, dialogue, and joint action in achieving sustainable development and addressing global challenges.
