Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Indian cricket team, according to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah. Morkel beat out competition from India and Karnataka bowler Vinay Kumar to replace the outgoing bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. Morkel has previously worked with head coach Gautam Gambhir with the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and also served as the bowling coach of Pakistan before abruptly leaving six weeks before his contract was set to expire.

During his playing days, Morkel was known as one of the top fast bowlers in South Africa’s star-studded pace attack. He made 86 Test appearances for the Proteas, claiming 309 wickets at an average of 27.7. In ODIs, Morkel played 117 matches and took 188 wickets at an average of 25.3, while in T20Is, he picked up 47 wickets in 44 appearances at an average of 25.3. Morkel brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Indian team as their new bowling coach.

In India’s recent series against Sri Lanka, Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff included Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, with T Dilip retained as the fielding coach. The addition of Morne Morkel to the coaching setup is expected to further enhance India’s bowling department and help the team in their quest for success in international cricket. Morkel’s appointment comes as part of BCCI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and improve the coaching staff of the Indian team to compete at the highest level in world cricket.

Having worked with some of the top cricketers in the world, including Gambhir and players from the Pakistan team, Morkel brings a unique perspective and understanding of the game to his coaching role. His experience and skills as a former international cricketer are sure to benefit the Indian bowlers in their development and performance on the field. Fans and experts alike are eager to see how Morkel’s coaching style and techniques will help the Indian bowlers elevate their game to the next level and achieve success in international competitions.

The appointment of Morne Morkel as the bowling coach of the Indian team marks a significant moment in Indian cricket as the BCCI continues to invest in top coaching talent to support the national team. Morkel’s track record and reputation as a fierce competitor on the field make him a valuable addition to the coaching staff, and his insights and guidance are expected to make a positive impact on the Indian bowlers. With Morkel on board, Indian cricket fans can look forward to seeing the team’s bowlers grow and excel under his mentorship in the upcoming matches and tournaments.
