The Ministry of Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), organized a discussion session on “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development and Youth Leadership in Developing Charitable and Humanitarian Work.” The session, held on International Youth Day (IYD) which falls on August 12 each year, aimed at addressing various topics related to youth and enhancing volunteer work among young people and members of society. The deputy head of the 10th Disaster Management Camp at QRCS, Ahmed Hamad Al Shahwani, emphasized the importance of young people in volunteer work and development, especially in the context of technology’s impact on volunteerism. Al Shahwani highlighted the growing culture of volunteering and expressed hope for more organized volunteer work in the face of future challenges.

During the discussion session, Al Shahwani pointed out that the prosperity of countries is closely tied to the number of volunteers they have. He noted that the QRCS has successfully highlighted models that have provided valuable experiences in volunteer work at global events, including IYD. The QRCS currently boasts a volunteer base of 31,000 individuals of varying genders, and Al Shahwani expressed hope for this number to grow in the future through the active recruitment and engagement of young people. The Ministry of Sports and Youth celebrates IYDs as a means to incorporate international youth concepts, promote humanitarian and charitable work among young individuals, and equip them with the necessary skills to become leaders in these fields.

The session emphasized the importance of technology in shaping the future of volunteer work and sustainable development. By leveraging digital pathways, young people can play a transformative role in advancing charitable and humanitarian initiatives, ultimately contributing to the overall prosperity of their communities and countries. Through discussions and collaborations such as these, participants can gain insights into innovative approaches to volunteerism that harness the power of technology and youth leadership. The session also serves as a platform to encourage more structured and organized volunteer work, allowing young individuals to address emerging challenges with creativity and efficiency.

In his statement to QNA, Al Shahwani reiterated the significant role that young people play in volunteer work and societal development. He highlighted the need for increased participation in volunteer activities to ensure the continued growth and success of charitable and humanitarian efforts. By engaging young individuals in volunteer work and providing them with the necessary support and resources, organizations like QRCS are able to cultivate a culture of giving back and social responsibility. Al Shahwani acknowledged the positive impact of youth involvement in global events and expressed optimism for the future expansion of volunteer numbers through targeted recruitment strategies.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth’s commitment to celebrating International Youth Day underscores its dedication to empowering young individuals and fostering a culture of volunteerism and leadership. By organizing discussion sessions such as the one held in collaboration with QRCS, the ministry aims to raise awareness about the critical role that technology plays in shaping the future of volunteer work. Through these initiatives, young people are encouraged to harness digital pathways for sustainable development and to become active participants in charitable and humanitarian endeavors. The ministry’s ongoing efforts to instill international youth concepts and promote humanitarian work among young individuals will continue to inspire a new generation of leaders dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
