International Youth Day, celebrated on August 12 each year, was marked in Qatar with a series of events organized by the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) under the auspices of the Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The activities were part of the ‘summer science camp 24’ and focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the SDG TECH program. Workshops were held to discuss sustainable development concepts, engineering applications for SDGs, sustainable agriculture, energy, engineering design, and recycling.
The program also included an exhibition showcasing sustainability and construction hackathon, as well as sustainable engineering models. Projects displayed at the exhibition included a cooled helmet model, a sustainable engineering building model, a road barrier installation project, an air quality sensor project, and ten engineering models printed with 3D printers. This initiative aimed to educate young people about sustainable development issues and introduce them to innovative solutions.
Iman Al Obaidi, Head of public relations and community outreach at QSC, highlighted the importance of the club’s participation in International Youth Day under the theme “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development”. The focus was on celebrating the capabilities of youth as partners in the global community, given their high usage of social media and the Internet. Eng Muneera Al Shriem, a trainer at QSC, emphasized the significance of workshops that focus on sustainable development to educate and empower young people.
In addition to the events organized by QSC, Al Shamal Sports Club collaborated with QSC to present a lecture on artificial intelligence applications for club members, embracing the spirit of International Youth Day. Meanwhile, the youth section at Al Sailiya Club, in partnership with the National Cyber Security Agency, hosted an awareness lecture on cyber security threats as part of the 2024 summer activity program. The lecture aimed to educate students about cyber risks and promote behaviors that enhance their online safety.
The involvement of various clubs and organizations in Qatar in celebrating International Youth Day reflects a commitment to empowering young people and promoting sustainable development practices. These initiatives not only educate the youth about important global issues but also provide them with opportunities to engage in innovative projects and workshops. By fostering a culture of sustainability and digital empowerment, Qatar is paving the way for a brighter future for its youth and the community at large.
As the international community continues to focus on youth issues and their role in sustainable development, Qatar’s efforts to celebrate International Youth Day through educational workshops and awareness lectures are commendable. By investing in the empowerment of its youth and promoting digital pathways for sustainable development, Qatar is setting an example for other nations to follow. With continued support and opportunities for young people to thrive, Qatar is poised to shape a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
