George Russell made headlines on July 28, 2024, after winning the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Spa. The British driver held off his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to secure a stunning 1-2 finish for the team. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took third place, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finishing in fourth. Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who started in 11th place, finished fifth and extended his championship lead over McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Russell started the race in sixth place but managed to hit the front after opting for a one-stop pit strategy. He carefully nursed his second set of tires for 34 of the race’s 44 laps, ultimately leading him to victory. This win marked Russell’s third grand prix win and came as a surprise even to him. He expressed his delight at the team’s 1-2 finish and looked forward to the summer break on a high note. Verstappen currently leads the championship race with 275 points, holding a comfortable 78-point lead over Norris. Red Bull also leads the constructors’ championship, with a 42-point advantage over McLaren.

As Formula One heads into a summer break, the next race is scheduled to take place in Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix on August 25. Fans and teams alike are eagerly anticipating the exciting races ahead as drivers continue to battle for the championship title. The Belgian Grand Prix proved to be an intense and thrilling event, showcasing the skill and determination of the world’s top Formula One drivers. With Russell’s unexpected victory and Verstappen’s continued dominance, the remainder of the season promises to be full of excitement and suspense for racing enthusiasts around the world.
