Former UAE resident, Chantal El Chaib, recently secured her maiden victory in England by winning the 2024 Women’s English Under-25’s Championship at Woburn Golf Club. El Chaib beat her younger sister, Lara, in a thrilling playoff after they were tied on two-under-par at the end of 54 holes. The win came after a scintillating final round by Chantal, where she produced eight birdies, including four in a row from holes 13-16.

Heading into the final day, Lara held a one-shot lead over Wales’ Luca Thompson, while Chantal was six shots behind. However, Chantal’s exceptional final round and Lara’s level par performance led to a playoff between the two sisters. In the playoff, Chantal’s hot form continued as she made par on the first hole, while Lara missed her putt, giving Chantal the victory.

Chantal expressed her excitement and gratitude for the win, emphasizing the confidence she gained throughout the tournament. She credited her success to her improved putting and mentioned that it was her first win in an England Golf tournament. Despite the loss, Lara remained positive and acknowledged her sister’s victory, stating that family comes first and their mother would be happy either way.

The El Chaib sisters first took up golf during their time in Abu Dhabi, where they had their initial golf lessons at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club. Chantal later pursued golf seriously and moved to the US for a golf scholarship at the University of Georgia, where she has achieved success in college events. Lara is also set to start her golf scholarship at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.

The sisters plan to return to Abu Dhabi for their winter college break later in the year. Chantal’s success at the Women’s English Championship marks a significant milestone in her golf career, showcasing her talent and determination. With their shared passion for golf and supportive family, the El Chaib sisters continue to pursue their dreams and excel in the sport they love.
