The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation “Kahramaa” has announced the start of registration for the competitions of the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency “Tarsheed” for the year 2024. This initiative aims to encourage entities in the government or private sector, individuals, researchers, and students to innovate ideas and implement projects that contribute to the rationalization of electricity and water consumption and the efficiency of their use to achieve sustainability. The competitions, which can be viewed and registered for through the corporation’s website until the end of September 2024, include 12 categories for all sectors.

The Tarsheed Competitions focus on promoting best practices in electricity and water conservation across various building types, such as residential, industrial, sports, government, commercial, and hospitality buildings. The Best Building Retrofitting Competition aims to update existing buildings with energy-efficient tools and systems like LED lighting and water-saving devices. The Best Sustainable Building Design competition emphasizes conservation principles in building design to inspire awareness and adoption of sustainable practices in the market. The Best Smart Solution in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency encourages innovative applications promoting conservation and efficiency, including interactive educational tools.

Other competitions in the Tarsheed Programme include enhancing district cooling systems, promoting water recycling initiatives, recognizing innovative energy efficiency projects, and encouraging students through competitions like the Tarsheed Short Story and Best Graduation Project for Energy Efficiency. The Best School Project on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency is open to all school students in Qatar, inviting them to submit research projects highlighting solutions to challenges included in Sustainable Development Goals announced by the United Nations. The Tarsheed Competition for the Best Innovative Idea in Energy Efficiency supports creative thinking towards energy conservation and efficiency by presenting innovative, feasible ideas that add value to energy efficiency.

Furthermore, a competition for the Highest Electric Vehicle User has been launched to encourage the community to use electric vehicles. Participants in this competition must own the electric vehicle, and the winner will be determined based on the usage rate and the best performance of the electric engine. These competitions aim to foster a culture of energy conservation and efficiency in Qatar, promoting sustainability and innovation in various sectors. Businesses, individuals, and students are encouraged to participate and contribute their ideas for a more sustainable future. Through these competitions, Qatar is taking proactive steps towards achieving its energy and water conservation goals while inspiring others to join in the journey towards a more sustainable future.
