The UAE recently inaugurated its first AI-enabled honey testing laboratory in Abu Dhabi to ensure the quality, purity, and authenticity of honey products. The Honey Quality Laboratory, established by M42 in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC), is situated in Masdar City. This cutting-edge facility utilizes advanced equipment and AI-enhanced technology to carry out comprehensive tests, detect impurities, and ensure compliance with global standards. The lab’s unique selling point lies in its vast data availability, enabling the use of AI tools for data analysis and integration of massive data sets to streamline operations and maintain the highest quality standards.

Engineer Abdulla Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory at ADQCC, highlighted the advantages of the facility over traditional testing methods, emphasizing its accuracy and broader scope of testing capabilities. The lab specializes in detecting impurities in honey, utilizing various testing methods such as isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) to ensure authenticity and prevent adulteration. Through tests like sugar profiling, moisture content verification, and environmental contaminant testing, the lab ensures that both local and international honey products meet stringent quality standards.

The facility is open to commercial entities, producers, and the general public, offering a range of testing services to ensure high-quality honey products. Supported by M42’s Environmental Sciences team, the lab aims to support local manufacturers and enhance the efficiency of operations through technology and automated tools. After conducting tests, a quality certification is issued to inform end-users about the quality, safety, and authenticity of the honey products, enabling them to make informed decisions about production processes and potential contaminants.

The strategic partnership between M42 and ADQCC supports various government entities, including the Abu Dhabi Food Safety Authority (ADFSA), by providing critical testing services to uphold public health and safety standards. By leveraging AI technology and advanced equipment, the honey testing laboratory in Abu Dhabi sets a new benchmark in ensuring the quality and purity of honey products, supporting local manufacturers, beekeepers, and consumers. The facility’s comprehensive testing capabilities, data-driven approach, and commitment to excellence position it as a leader in the field of honey testing and quality assurance in the UAE.
