Dubai-born golfer Simon Dunn, who is now 45 years old, recently made the transition from professional golfer back to the amateur ranks. He began his golf journey at the Emirates Golf Club as a 13-year-old, where he received coaching from professionals like Greg Schofield, Elliott Gray, and Adrian Flaherty. He quickly progressed and qualified to play in his first Asian Tour event as an amateur at the age of 16. Dunn also won multiple UAE Golf Association events during his amateur days.

After turning professional in 2003, Dunn had a successful career, winning on the European Professional Development Tour in Germany in 2003 and securing his Challenge Tour card for the following year. He achieved his best finish in Asia at the Volkswagen China Masters in 2006, finishing third behind Retief Goosen and Michael Campbell. Dunn’s highest Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) was 625 in 2006. In 2023, he decided to regain his amateur status after not competing as a professional for two years.

Currently playing off a handicap of +4.3, Dunn remains actively involved in the golf scene, participating in EGF Order of Merit events and finishing tied 6th in the 2023-24 Men’s EGF Order of Merit. He also won the 2023 Al Zorah Men’s Open and represented Team Amateurs at the Annual Dubai Golf Trophy. Despite his successful golf career, Dunn has been working full-time in various operations and managerial roles since 2010.

Dunn’s story serves as an inspiration for aspiring golfers, showcasing the dedication and passion required to succeed in the sport. With a strong background in both amateur and professional golf, Dunn’s experience and knowledge are valuable assets that continue to benefit him in his current endeavors. As he continues to compete in EGF events and contribute to the local golf community, Dunn’s story is a testament to the enduring love and commitment to the game of golf.

In conclusion, Simon Dunn’s golf journey from amateur beginnings to professional success and back to the amateur ranks is a testament to his resilience and passion for the sport. His achievements on the course, both as a professional and amateur player, highlight his talent and dedication to the game. As he continues to compete and inspire others in the golfing community, Dunn’s story serves as a reminder of the rewards that come with hard work and perseverance in pursuit of one’s goals. By sharing his experiences and knowledge with others, Dunn aims to contribute positively to the growth and development of golf in the UAE and beyond.
