In an intense match in Dublin, Pakistan secured a thrilling seven-wicket victory over Ireland in the second Twenty20 international. The win set up an exciting deciding showdown in the three-match series. After opting to bat first, Ireland got off to a strong start by scoring 29 runs in the first three overs. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s brilliant bowling performance, which included dismissing the opening pair of Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie, halted Ireland’s early aggression. Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector further solidified Ireland’s innings with a 62-run partnership for the third wicket, with Tucker scoring a commendable 51 runs off 34 deliveries. Curtis Campher and George Dockrell also contributed to Ireland’s total before Gareth Delany’s explosive 28 off 10 balls propelled the hosts to a final score of 193 for seven.

On the other hand, Pakistan faced a shaky start to their chase as Saim Ayub was caught in the first over, and skipper Babar Azam was dismissed for a duck in the second over. However, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman turned the game around with a magnificent 140-run partnership. Rizwan’s unbeaten 75 and Zaman’s 78 runs guided Pakistan towards victory. Azam Khan’s quick 30 off 10 balls further solidified Pakistan’s win as they reached the target with 3.1 overs to spare. Speaking after the match, Babar Azam expressed relief and credited the team’s batters for their performance. He highlighted the decision to bowl first, citing the overcast conditions and rain as factors that influenced the decision.

The victory was particularly significant for Pakistan, as Ireland had claimed their first-ever T20 win against the team in the series opener on Friday, securing a five-wicket victory with just one ball to spare. The series win sets a positive tone for Pakistan as they prepare to face Ireland once again in the group stage of the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be held in the United States and the West Indies next month. The rivalry between Pakistan and Ireland promises to deliver more exciting cricket battles in the upcoming matches, as both teams aim to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.
